How the PTR/PTS Calculator Works

If you're new to pharma franchise, PTR and PTS sound more complicated than they are. PTR — Price to Retailer — is what a stockist charges the pharmacy. PTS — Price to Stockist — is what the company charges the stockist, which is effectively your cost in a PCD model. Both come from the MRP once you strip out GST and apply the trade margins.

The calculator above does the maths for you. Enter the MRP, pick the GST rate (5%, 12% or 18%), and set the retailer and stockist margins. You instantly see the PTR, PTS, net company price, your profit and the profit margin percentage — colour-coded so a healthy margin is obvious. We built it because our partners kept asking the same pricing questions, and a clear number beats a long explanation every time.

A quick rule of thumb from our experience: margins above 30% are excellent, 15–30% are solid, and anything under 15% is worth a second look before you commit to a product. Different categories behave differently — injectables and derma ranges typically carry better margins than basic tablets, which is part of why a balanced product mix matters.

Calculator FAQs

PTR (Price to Retailer) is the price a stockist charges a retail pharmacy. PTS (Price to Stockist) is the price the company charges the stockist. Both are derived from the MRP after GST and the relevant margins.

PTR = MRP ÷ (1 + GST/100) × (1 − retailer margin/100). For example, a ₹100 product at 12% GST with a 20% retailer margin gives a PTR of about ₹71.43.
